A blog reporting on the big sports news of the day (With a decidedly Detroit slant)
News and Notes
Monday June 16
Baseball Line of the Day: Ryan Howard, Philadelphia Phillies 3-5, 2 runs, 4 RBI, 2 HR, 3B, 2 K -Howard is having one of the truly odd years of all time. On pace for 43 HR, 218 K, 88 BB, Howard does all he can to take away the defense. Batting only .224, Howard is also making less contact than ever, though he is strangely on pace for 5 3Bs, an amazing number for a man his size.
Basketball Sunday June 15 Pau Gasol, LA Lakers 19 points, 6-10 FG, 7-10 FT, 13 rebounds, 6 assists -Gasol did almost whatever he wanted against the NBA's DPOY. His tremendous all-around game was much needed. The Lakers had struggled to support Kobe when he wasn't shooting well. But, Gasol came through in an elimination game and sent the series back to Boston.
Rick Porcello Watch The Tigers' top draft pick in 2007, and one of the game's top pitching prospects, is playing for High-A Lakeland -3-6, 67.1 innings, 13 starts, 2.94 ERA, 41 K, 19 BB, 4 HR
I'm currently playing for the Switch-Hitters, a co-ed softball team in Royal Oak. We won 7-6 Monday to get to 4-1-1 on the season. We beat the first place team in a great defensive battle marked by some key plays in the field. Recognition goes out to Amy for her catch at 3rd base, Mares for his 3 walks, and Frank's solid pitching yet again. Brad also continued his perfect on-base %. We'll be back in action on June 23 at 7:20 at Worden Park.
